All the Way Around Maui With Hana Tours
Experience Maui as never before with a tour around all of the island. From sugar cane fields to the Road to Hana, this tour includes all of the top destinations on the island. If you want to dine at fruit stands famous for shaved ice or enjoy a traditional Hawaiian village, this all-encompassing tour is the one for you.
The beginning of the journey stars in the sugar cane fields of Maui. As your tour continues, you will learn about the plantation era on the island. The first official stop is at the Ho’okipa Beach Park where surfers congregate for the world’s best surfing. Along this coastline, you can catch sight of the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle.
As we leave the beach, we will head through rolling country sides and verdant bamboo forests. We will take a quick stop in a strand of eucalyptus trees before we head down the Road to Hana. As we navigate the winding road, you will get to see waterfalls, streams and rainforests. If the water is strong enough, we will stop in a waterfall pool for a dip before heading on to the shaved ice and fruit stands at Banana Bread.
Traditional Hawaiian Villages And Ancient Missionary Churches
From this point, we dive down the Keanae Peninsula to see a traditional Hawaiian village. Today, mahi’ai (cultivators) harvest the taro fields in the same way that their ancestors did. While there, check out the old missionary church. This original structure was built in 1856 and was the only building to survive the 1946 tsunami.
Next door to the village, we stop at Wailua. This small village is well-known for having the Waikani falls. This three-tier waterfall is one of the best that the Road to Hana has to offer, and it includes a hike and a swim if you want to stop for a while.
Once the tour continues, the next stop involves an underground path to a place where ancient lava flowed through the island. We have to don our headlamps at this location to see all of the cave’s features as we learn about Hawaiian mythology and the Goddess of Fire.
Lunchtime And More tropical Delights
After a long morning, we stop the tour at Coconut Glen’s. While there, you can enjoy ice cream and candy made from the island’s coconuts. As this part of the tour wraps up, we head to Wai’anapanapa Beach Park. Known for its glistening water and pebble lava field, this gorgeous beach park includes a lava arch and a black sand beach. You can either sunbathe on the beach or enjoy a swim through the caves.
At the Nahiku Marketplace, check out local dishes like coconut shrimp and bread fish. If you need a present for someone at home, the stone jewelry, woodwork and spiritual icons are a safe bet. As we drive along, the next stop is Hana town. Once the home of the royalty, this native fishing village later became a location of plantations as Westerners moved to the islands.
Once we leave Hana, the road begins to narrow. The green jungles fall back as desert-like lava fields take over. In the lava fields, you can see the jagged lava rock and the island’s most recent lava flow. From here, we climb up the side of the mountain to enjoy an exceptional view of surrounding islands and Maui’s coastline.
From the mountain, we wander down the mountainside to the Tedeschi Winery. After refreshments and a beautiful sunset, we head back to the original starting point. The tour lasts about 10 hours in total, and departures leave between 7 to 8 AM.
